Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium grant is an allocation of additional funding, to help raise the progress and attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential. The Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools based on the number of students on roll, known to be currently eligible for free school meals or have been eligible within the last 6 years, as well as pupils who have been looked after by the Local Authority, or have left Local Authority care because of one of the following:

  • Adoption
  • Special guardianship order
  • Child arrangements order (previously known as a residence order)

All schools are required to annually report on the amount of funding and how this is being used each academic year. The grant may be spent in the following ways:

  • For the purpose of the school i.e. for the educational benefit of the pupils registered at the school
  • For the benefit of pupils registered at other maintained schools or academies
  • On community services whose provision furthers the benefit of pupils at the school

We recognise that evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools use a tiered approach, targeting spending across three areas, with a particular focus on teaching – teaching, targeted academic support and wider approaches.

For information about how this funding is used, please read our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement.
