P. E. Session with Samuel Jones

Our Lockdown learning Stars. They have shown great commitment to their learning.

Year 5 have taken part in a range of activities throughout the month of October to celebrate Black History Month
During a History lesson, we looked at black influential musicians and their achievements. The children then compared and contrasted the musicians and all they have achieved during their career.
During indoor PE, the children were taught a dance by Ashley Banjo, the founder of the Diversity dance troop, and then choreographed their own.
During English lessons, the children learnt all about Benjamin Zephaniah, a British black poet from Birmingham. The children watched videos and then analysed his poetry. They created their own version of his poem
'The British ( serves 60 million) and performed it to each other.
Click on the links below to watch some of Benjamin Zephaniah's poetry performed
During indoor PE sessions, Kestrels have been choreographing their own dance routines inspired by the Diversity dance group. The children watched an online tutorial video presented by Ashley Banjo ( The founder of Diversity) and then used similar movements to create their own routine.

Reading
You are expected to read every day at home for 15 minutes. Your adult then needs to date, sign and write a quick comment in your reading record book to show you have read to them. This will be checked by your teacher every Friday.
E.g. 4.9.20. Mrs Turner. Mo read fluently and stopped at every full stop before continuing to read.
RM Easimaths
You are expected to spend at least 20 minutes a week completing Maths questions and problems on RM Easimaths. You will use your log in you have always used and were sent again in March during lockdown.
The longer time you spend on RM Easimaths the greater chance your class will have of winning a prize at the end of the half term!
Reading support for parents/carers
Attached are the Reading Domain Questions to support you when asking your child questions whilst listening to them read every day. This will also be sent home with your child next week.
