The teachers in Kingfishers and Swans are Mrs Rhodes, Miss Armstrong and Miss Kiernan. We are also supported by our dedicated teaching assistants; Mrs Li, Miss Warby, Mrs Lock, Mrs Boardman and Miss Mills. We also have our brilliant speech therapist; Maxine Whitmore.
Welcome to Autumn term in Kingfishers and Swans! Kingfisher class context this term is 'Sense it' and Swan's class context is 'Time Travelers'. Both classes liaise closely with the speech therapist to deliver personalised programmes and learning experiences which link to the children's language needs.
Kingfisher class will be learning about everything to do with our senses! We will be learning about our own personal family and changes in our own lives as well as looking at past events from the history of Britain such as The Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes. We will be looking at the artist Kandinsky and we will be creating our own fireworks art piece. We will be exploring the woods on a ‘senses’ walk and we will visit Surrey street market to buy and try a range of different foods. The term will be jam packed full of sensory activities to support their learning around this topic.
Swans new context will be learning all about The Romans. The children will be building armour and weapons to use in battle. This will provide the stimulus for writing a diary entry in the character of a Roman. In Art the children will experience making cave drawings. In History they will be looking at a timeline of events through the ages. In Science they will be testing different materials to use as a Roman Shield. There will also be fun trips to further support their learning. I do hope the children ae looking forward to our new topic as much as I am!
